Alpha-gal safe yellow mustard
This simple, bright yellow mustard is a classic American condiment.
Ingredients
¾ cup yellow mustard powder (or freshly ground yellow/brown mustard seed)
½ cup distilled white vinegar
1 cup water
1 tsp turmeric (for color)
½ tsp salt
½ tsp garlic powder
¼ tsp paprika
Instructions
In a saucepan, combine all ingredients and whisk until smooth.
Bring the mixture to a low boil, then reduce the heat to a simmer.
Cook for 10–15 minutes, stirring frequently, until the mustard thickens to your desired consistency.
Remove from the heat and allow it to cool completely. The mustard will thicken further as it cools.
Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three months.
To turn your plain mustard into a smooth, French-inspired Dijon-style version, just add:
1–2 tablespoons of white wine or white wine vinegar
½ teaspoon of maple syrup or agave (for that subtle sweetness)
Blend until silky and slightly mellowed. Voilà—your mustard just got a passport.
Ready to dress it up?
Honeyed Heat: Stir in a spoonful of maple syrup and a pinch of cayenne for sweet-spicy magic.
Herb & Zest: Add lemon zest and chopped tarragon or thyme for a garden-fresh twist.
Smoky Gold: A dash of smoked paprika or liquid smoke turns it into a BBQ-ready wonder.
Curry Mustard: Mix in a bit of mild curry powder for a warm, earthy variation.
Garlic Glow-Up: Roasted garlic makes it rich, mellow, and perfect for dipping.
Each variation keeps things Alpha-Gal–safe and totally customizable. Think of mustard as your flavor toolkit—ready to build, blend, and surprise.
